Black Friday: How to Catch Real Hotel Deals

Black Friday is the biggest hotel sale window of the year for Canadian travellers — followed by Cyber Monday and, a month later, Boxing Day. The deals are real, but so are the traps. Here is how to catch the first and dodge the second.

The dates to watch: Black Friday (November 27, 2026), Cyber Monday (November 30, 2026), and Boxing Day (December 26, 2026). Resorts and booking sites run their best offers in these windows — and the best rooms sell out first.

Know the real price before the sale. Track the resort you want for a few weeks ahead, so you can tell a genuine drop from a "discount" off an inflated rack rate. A price watch does this for you: if the rate falls 5% or more, that is a deal worth acting on.

Book refundable. The best sale strategy is a free-cancellation booking at the sale price — if the price drops again later, rebook and cancel the first one. Never lock a non-refundable rate unless you are 100% sure of the dates.

Compare the full stay, not the nightly rate. Taxes, fees, and "1 kid free" offers change the total more than a nightly discount suggests. Always check the final checkout price for the whole trip.

Check the member rate too. Loyalty programs like RIU Class often stack their member discount on top of sale prices — log in before you compare.

The golden rule: a deal is only a deal if it beats the price you tracked before the sale. Everything else is marketing.
