How Much Does a Week at Riu Guanacaste Really Cost?

Riu Guanacaste sits on Playa Matapalo in Costa Rica, about 40–45 minutes from Liberia airport. It's an all-inclusive resort, so one price covers the room, all meals, drinks, and evening shows. But the price swings a lot by season — here's what we found.

The numbers

7 nights, 2 adults + 2 kids, 1 room, taxes included, RIU Class member rate:

• September 12–19, 2027: ~C$3,465 — the cheapest week of the year, but also the rainiest.
• October 23–30, 2027: ~C$3,790 — the cheapest late-October week, Friends & Family Room, free cancellation, 1 kid free.
• May 9–16, 2027: ~C$3,800 — nearly the same price, but much drier weather.
• February 7–14, 2027: ~C$7,400 — peak season, roughly double the green-season price.
• 14 nights, October 23 – November 6, 2027: ~C$8,590 — longer stays bring the per-night price down.

What the price does NOT include

• Flights. There are no direct flights from Edmonton to Liberia — the usual route is one stop via Calgary (WestJet flies direct from Calgary year-round).
• Airport transfer. It's not included and runs about $35–60 per vehicle each way.

How to pay less
